I am looking for help in organizing a march on Houston's City Hall for Health Care Reform. We will march from North, South, East, and West areas of Houston, merging on City Hall. Whether you support public option or single payer and many other issues that face America today, please support our We the People cause, It's time We the People fight the special interest groups. They believed they've won. We will fight back, We the People will make our stand, NOW! We will not, we cannot, go quietly into poverty and silence, our forefather's America is at stake, our children's America is at stake. We fought for justice in the 60's, now it's time for We the People of all ages to once again stand up and come to the aide of all Americans!

Whether or not you have health insurance right now, the reforms we seek will bring stability and security that you don't have today.

This isn't about politics. This is about people's lives. This is about people's businesses. This is about our future.

WILD IN THE STREET

Wild in the Streets

American International Pictures originally offered the role of Max Frost to noted folk singer-songwriter Phil Ochs, who was known at the time to want to branch out into film work. However, after reading the screenplay, Ochs rejected it, stating the story presented the youth counterculture of the 1960s in a badly distorted light.
more information"

Max Frost and his band want to run the country and with the help of their friends and some pharmacology, they take over the political structure of the USA. It's a reasonably well made cautionary tale of the late 60's. It briefly became a cult favorite and was said to have prompted then-mayor of Chicago, Richard Daily, to put guards around the city's water supply just prior to, and during the 1968 Democratic National Convention to prevent anarchists from "dosing" the water with psychedelics.

The storyline is fairly slick for the time; how do a bunch of don't-trust-anyone-over-30 kids take over the country? There's a little romance, a little angst, a little rock music, and a lot of scenery-chewing and overacting by the "Major Stars" including Shelly Winters and Ed Begley. Hal Holbrook was able to keep it toned down.

This was also one of the first major films the late Richard Prior appeared in. The other being Sid Cesar's "The Busy Body", released the same year.

The psychedelic aspects of "Wild in the Streets" make it a great film to pair with Peter Fonda's "The Trip" for a 60's double feature flashback fest. Enjoy and never trust anyone under 30. heh.

Lots of people have been asking me for more material from Max Frost and the Troopers or from the WILD IN THE STREETS movie. So, here are four great songs from the original soundtrack album, released on Tower Records in 1968. None of these songs has ever been released on CD:

1) "Wild in the Streets"
2) "Listen to the Music"
3) "Love to Be Your Man"
4) "Fourteen or Fight"

Interestingly, two of these songs--"Wild in the Streets" and "Love to Be Your Man"--do not appear in the actual film, and the version of "Fourteen or Fight" that is featured on this soundtrack album is quite different from the one heard in the movie.

Although on the album cover some of the album's songs are credited to The 13th Power, The Second Time, and so on, almost all the songs are credited to Max Frost and the Troopers on the record label. Ultimately the "band" name is irrelevent, though, as the same basic group of musicians recorded all of the material.

Welcome to the world of obscurity
"BEYOND THE BEAT GENERATION".

This is an archive - a museum!

BEYOND THE BEAT GENERATION archives and publishes the entire, long forgotten 'wild' musical gems out of the great years of the sixties (1965-1969) to a bright audience by using today's technology as we call 'Stream Radio'.

We broadcast 24 hours non-stop through the Internet the music formerly known as: Hippie music, Underground, 60's punk, Flower Power, Mod, Free-Form-Freak-out, Garage music, Psychedelia or Teen Beat, the weirdest, the worst, the most powerful and nastiest ever recorded.

During the 60's all teens were obsessed by music, but only a few touched surface, all groups wanted to be, sound like, or look like 'The Beatles', 'The Rolling Stones', 'Pink Floyd', 'The Doors', 'Jefferson Airplane' or 'The Velvet Underground'.

Music was a movement. Music was the expression of a lifestyle. Music was politics, a protest against establishment, wars and society.

Frank Sinatra Blue Moon "Happy New Year"

Blue Moon on New Year's Eve

For the first time in over a decade, New Year's Eve revelry, from early- evening snowshoe hikes to midnight fireworks, will take place by the light of a blue moon.

Savor the moment, astronomers say, because the phenomenon in which two full moons occur in the same month won't happen again in December until 2028.

"I encourage people to look up, enjoy the sight and think about all the interesting things that have happened" over the past decade, said Robert Stencel, professor of astronomy at the University of Denver, where public astronomy events are often held at the Chamberlin Observatory. " And be happy that we're still here to observe it."

I've heard the expression "once in a blue moon" all my life, and knew it was referring to "a long time", but I never thought about the term's origin. Today, my 90 year old father-in-law asked me if I knew what made a moon a "blue moon". I didn't know, and since we start the new year off in a "blue moon", I did some research. Interesting...very interesting.According to the popular definition, it is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month.

The average interval between Full Moons is about 29.5 days, whilst the length of an average month is roughly 30.5 days. This makes it very unlikely that any given month will contain two Full Moons, though it does sometimes happen.

On average, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years.

Blue Moon on New Year's Eve

For the first time in almost twenty years, there's going to be a Blue Moon on New Year's Eve.Most months have only one full Moon. The 29.5-day cadence of the lunar cycle matches up almost perfectly with the 28- to 31-day length of calendar months. Indeed, the word "month" comes from "Moon." Occasionally, however, the one-to-one correspondence breaks down when two full Moons squeeze into a single month. Dec. 2009 is such a month. The first full Moon appeared on Dec. 2nd; the second, a "Blue Moon," will come on Dec. 31st.

This definition of Blue Moon is relatively new.

If you told a person in Shakespeare's day that something happens "once in a Blue Moon" they would attach no astronomical meaning to the statement. Blue moon simply meant rare or absurd, like making a date for the Twelfth of Never. "But meaning is a slippery substance," says Hiscock. "The phrase 'Blue Moon' has been around for more than 400 years, and during that time its meaning has shifted."

The modern definition sprang up in the 1940s. In those days, the Farmer's Almanac of Maine offered a definition of Blue Moon so convoluted that even professional astronomers struggled to understand it. It involved factors such as the ecclesiastical dates of Easter and Lent, and the timing of seasons according to the dynamical mean sun. Aiming to explain blue moons to the layman, Sky & Telescope published an article in 1946 entitled "Once in a Blue Moon." The author James Hugh Pruett cited the 1937 Maine almanac and opined that the "second [full moon] in a month, so I interpret it, is called Blue Moon."

That was not correct, but at least it could be understood. And thus the modern Blue Moon was born.

S.A.F.E. Energy Fencing System

This unique invention combines the functionality of a perimeter fencing system with a unique solar panel system built right into the fence’s upper shell. As the sun rises and sets, the solar panels in the fence collect the sun’s rays and transforms them into free, clean, renewable energy which is then inverted into the electric meter of the home or office building. This system reduces the electric bill and helps eliminate the public’s dependence on carbon based fuels.

A fence that protects your property, the environment, and your wallet!

New Jersey – EarthSure, a renewable energy company and innovator in alternative energy sources announces the latest patent-pending renewable energy invention. Solar Alternative Functioning Energy (S.A.F.E.) Fencing System, is an earth-friendly fencing configuration made out of recycled PVC that not only protects the owner’s property, it also collects the sun’s rays and transforms them into renewable energy!

This unique invention combines the functionality of a perimeter fencing system with a unique solar panel system built inside to conceal the inner walls of the fence. As the sun rises, the sunlight is collected by a series of optical lenses that transmit the light to solar panels which is then transformed into free, clean, renewable energy. This is then inverted into the electric meter of the home, office, or commercial building. This system reduces the electric bill and helps eliminate the public’s dependence on carbon based fuels.

Manufacturers of the S.A.F.E. fence say that the cost of the fence and installation in time will pay for itself. It is the only fence of its kind to offer a return on investment by saving money on the owner’s electric bill. As an added bonus, the purchase and installation can be subsidized by the government anywhere from 30% and up to 50% in some states. Solar energy users can also receive RECs (renewable energy credits) based on how much energy it produces at that location.

Another benefit of the system is that, unlike bulky and unsightly solar panels, this solar energy fencing system is an attractive unit, one that adds beauty and protection to the property, all while reducing our carbon footprint by creating clean, green energy. Earthsure predicts that with all of the benefits of this new fencing system including the look and functionality as well as the earth-saving benefits will convince the public to protect their property and the world with S.A.F.E. Fencing System.

Support Tiger Woods

I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.

...let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone...John 8:7

I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord when was it that we did these things for you?' And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.Matthew 25: 35-45

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to reap that which is planted.A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to to mourn, and a time to dance.A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.A time to get and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak;A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace."Ecclesiastes 3: 1

Talking about Stephen King Under The Dome

In his on words, Stephen King's Under The Dome On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when -- or if -- it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens -- town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing -- even murder -- to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Book trailers are an interesting recent development in marketing. The very concept doesn’t make a whole lot of sense at first, seeing as books don’t actually have visual scenes to make a trailer out of, but done properly, they can be pretty effective tools for creating buzz around a new novel. And sometimes, they can be pretty cool. The trailer for Stephen King’s new book, Under The Dome, falls squarely into the “cool” category. The novel follows the inhabitants of a small town that is trapped in a huge, clear dome by unknown forces.

Some say King’s best years are behind him; I disagree. That’s not to say I enjoy every last one of his books – hell, the man’s written so many, there’s no way they could all be great. But when he’s on, he’s one of the best writers in modern horror (and sometimes science fiction). To me, it seems that he’s at his best when he gives himself room to breathe, page-wise. The Stand is brilliant; so is It. Both are over 1000 pages. The Dark Tower series, his masterpiece, unfolds over the course of seven increasingly long books. Under The Dome will be 1088 pages long; hopefully, that means we can expect the epic storytelling and surprisingly personal character development the author, at his best, is capable of.Check out the trailer below; it’s short, but it got me kinda pumped for this book. HALLOWEEN AT THE WHITE HOUSE

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Currently you're able to find the nation's premier haunted houses, costumes, pumpkins, crafts, monsters and more. PLEASE, GO GREEN - HALLOWEEN: HOW TO GO GREEN - HALLOWEEN

(1) Halloween at the White House

(2) Halloween at the White House

(3) Halloween at the White House

Not a moment passes at Organizing For America without volunteers and leaders across the country taking their creativity to the next level. Last week, during our October 20 Day of Action, we had students launching ideas in Ohio and neighbors working together in Michigan to create one of the strongest advocacy pushes in the history of OFA. Once again, this Halloween, we want to call on you to put on your creative hats (it'll look great with that costume) and show us your carving skills!

A pumpkin can be many things; for some, its decoration. For others it's what your grandmother calls you while she's pinching your cheeks. Here at OFA, we think a pumpkin on your front porch can also be a way to show your support for health reform! Last year on October 31, four days before we elected Barack Obama as our 44th President, individuals carved images and messages into their festive orange pumpkins. Our friends at YesWeCarve.com showcased the amazing results.

We want you to send us pictures of your carved pumpkins! You can recreate some of the carvings above. Click Here for some stencils, or come up with your own! Send us pictures to halloween2009@dnc.org. We are so close to the one year election anniversary mark, and we are close to making health insurance reform a reality. Bring your friends, family, and (b)roommates together and make a party out of carving your message to show your community your support for reform NOW. Let's scare the naysayers away!

Instead of another bad Halloween joke, I'll just leave the creativity in your hands....Be sure to send us pictures!
